The goal of this project is to find a definition of daily routine and explore the interconnection between the physical and digital worlds. Since I was interested in the relationship between online and offline activities, I decided to make a video to show how the digital world influences our lives. While I was exploring this idea, I defined daily routine as a personal rhythm and repetition of one’s activities.

To express my definition of daily routine, I decided to record my activities in both real and digital worlds and combine them. As mentioned in Erin’s radio show, I agreed that each object has different characteristics and identity. Based on this essential idea of our relationship to objects, I used the environment and objects around me as sonic sources to create this sound artifact. When the sounds were merged, they created a new sound. With these sources, I created 2 minutes of video and audio that represent my daily routine. I used a screen recording technique on my phone to capture both image and sound. Then, I used iMovie and Adobe Premiere Pro to edit these recordings. Using the video overlay technique, I connected my online activities with real life. I wanted to display this video in a public space to interact with other people, but I could not find any location to install. This project brought an outcome of a sonic artifact that shows the inseparable relationship between the digital world and our lives.

This project reflects the idea of rhythm and repetition found in our daily life and the influence of digital technology in our lives. It also signifies the association between objects and us. Although I could not do the installation due to the limited space, the sonic artifact shows the significance of rhythm.
